Letters of Encouragement

Saturday 16th March 10am -12 noon.

Leamington Spa Baptist Church – Warwick Room

Dear Friends

I am going to be holding a small event called “Letters of Encouragement” on Saturday 16th March.  I am hoping that a group will then continue to meet regularly to support and pray for people across the world who are persecuted for their faith.  We pray for countries and situations in our churches where we know there is persecution, but often it is not until we see the deeply moving, individual circumstances that we make a profound connection.

The group will take its lead from Connect and Encourage – a newsletter that contains the stories of many people who are in need of encouragement. Many are imprisoned.  Please see www.csw.org.uk/connectencourage.   By writing letters and praying for these people it helps them to know they are not alone and encourage them in times where they can feel at their lowest. One woman called Gloria says:

“Sometimes I ran out of strength to pray for myself.  In the darkest moments, when we felt totally hopeless, alone and desperate and we couldn’t even pray for ourselves, it was alright because we knew there were people all over holding us up in prayer, when we ourselves could not.”

I feel it would be an amazing thing to have a group to pray and write letters to these people who are struggling, to encourage them and let them know that through Christ and the church they are not alone. This informal session will be a chance to find out a little more about the project and the group, and the places all around the world that these letters will be sent to as well as giving the opportunity to start praying and writing. Even if you don’t feel writing letters is for you, I would still love you to join us for fellowship, prayer and coffee and cakes.
